Outstanding State Chaplain

(Tom Sellmer Memorial Award)

 This award was instituted at the annual meeting held in Tampa, 2024 to recognize the outstanding state chaplain.  The US JCI Senate has not always had a Memorial Service for our departed Senators.  However, om 1989 that changed thanks in the leadership of National Chaplain Tom Sellmer.  Tom presented the idea of wanting to do something and believed it would be appropriate to recognize the Senators who had passed away during that year.  Tom presented a non-denominational Memorial Service with a generic eulogy to honor all the departed Senators.  The first Memorial Service for the US JCI Senate was held in Memphis in June, 1989 under National Chaplain Tom.  Tom served as National Chaplain three times:  1988-89, 1991-92 and 2002-03. This award is sponsored by the Indiana JCI Senate.
